Weekend Afternoon - Fremantle, Perth

Weekend, no flights, bored...nothing to do. Wat else can a bunch of poor, boring cadets do over here in Perth? Nothing much, i suppose we can only eat...and eat...and eat.

We heard of the little ramen stall that sells authentic japanese noodles in the weekend market in Fremantle. So the bunch of us headed down hoping to satisfy our taste buds. So here's wat we had that afternoon!

A fine year, A fine gentleman, A great lost

This week hasn't been all good. Good events occur and unfortunate events also took place. The better side of things; both my room mate (tim) and me cleared our P2 progress check flight and proceeded to Phase 3 of our training over here in Jandakot. But this week also saw the departure of our course mate.

Course 125 first embarked on it's journey back in dec 2006. Since then, 1 year 2 months had past. Many outsiders often just see the glamourous side of airliner pilots. The 'relax' kinda life, no office hours, travel all around the world...true, the lifestyle of an airliner pilot can be classified as way beyond wat a office personal enjoys. But how many of you actually see the sacrifice that many of us had to give when putting down our signature on the contract? Not many i suppose.

Some of us over here are married, some have kids, some have gfs, some left a decent paying job...guess wat, although the gains are trememdous IF we check out as an FO, wat can be lost are equally devastating. Cadetship for about 3 yrs before eventually checking out as an FO, hmmm...so to those who feel that airliner pilots are just a bunch of people who are enjoying more than wat they deserved, please think again.

This aint an happy entry coz i didn't meant it to be. A great gentleman was sent back on 16th Jan. The course could do nothing, it's the management decision. We could only bid him farewell and pray for his return back to Jandakot.

Phase 2 - 42 days

Phase 1 of my training was a disaster. I had to repeat almost every dual flights that i did. In fact...i had to repeat to the extent that i took a full 1 mth to clear 1 sortie! kinda ridiculous but that's how bad my Phase 1 was. Without saying...Phase 1 lasted 4 and half mths before i eventually managed to scrap pass my P1 check flight. Crap...

Phase 2 started immediately after i cleared my check flight on 8th dec 07. Phase 2 is the stage where we embark on visual flight navigation and consist of flight sorties; sortie 131 to sortie 160.

The pace in phase 2 is pretty much set by each individual. Getting an instructor that is free to fly your dual nav sorties pretty much means that, the faster you clear your solo sorties, the faster you will be able to sign up for P2 check flight. I was lucky to be in this position and flew as hard and as much as i could (which pretty much explains why my blog came to a stand still for the past month).

26 days was the duration that i took to clear my P2 flights. But something that i couldn't control was the P2 check flight queue. I was put on the waiting list for 2 weeks 2 days before i eventually cleared my check flight (and that includes the 2 days that i had no choice but to cancel the check flight due to unforseen circumstances).

Half way left to go! P3 here i come!
