Circuit Sortie 108 - Cancelled; Tower Visit

YXT ETD was scheduled to take off at 1400hrs, but the weather was in total disaster! Showers, high x-wind, wet runway, low cloud base at 800ft, you named it, you had it. CRAP! Sortie 108 was cancelled and i was grounded yet another day.

    Jandakot Control Tower

But due to the bad weather, our instructor decided to bring us up to the control tower here in Jandakot Airport. For those who absolutely have no idea what the heck a control tower is for, basically it's purpose is to control the traffic in the aerodrome and to help instruct pilots-in-air with the inbound, outbound, rejoin procedures and of course circuit works. The very tall tower that you happen to see back in Changi International Airport is the control tower (just in case you are wondering what the heck that structure is for).

    View from the Tower

I have always wondered who the heck is over the other side of the radio that i am communicating with when in flight. Finally i get to see the heros behind-the-scene. The view from the control tower is breathtaking (the pictures looks really gloomy due to the rain). Basically, the controller have a 360 view of the airport and the surroundings. All aircrafts taking off and landing is within their visual sight.

    Another View from the Tower

I really must thank these behind-the-scene heros that help direct us safely to the respective runway for our landing. If not for them, the risk factor in air would have increased significantly. Kudoz to the ATC!

BBQ Night - IT'S FOOD! GLORIOUS FOOD!

Sunday 26th August, morning, i was sleeping when many of my colleagues went for the City to Surf Run held in Perth City. Hahaha...LP and Robin ran 12km, while i too ran 12hrs...on my bed that is.

The college decided to have a BBQ night to 'celebrate' the run thingy. So guess wat, the 2 most junior courses need to BBQ some 100 pieces of beef, chicken wings, sausages etc etc.

Course 126 - Doing the BBQ in the cold winter night

Course 125 - Never have we cook so much in our lives before

Nevermind the pose,  it's the food that is impt

    Again..posing?!

Shit! Caught stealing food. Too late, already in my mouth.

Hahaha...after satisfying our glutton nature, we moved on to our 'favorite' pass time. play PINGPONG! Shiok...life in Jandakot is just 'Happeningzzzz'

    Sortie 107A - Circuits

Sortie 107A was a disaster. First round touch-n-go...the approach was handled by me and i made the worse landing ever. The aircraft bounced twice on the runway and i lost control of it completely. if is was a solo flight...chances are i might have crashed the plane. Go-around was inititated.

The remaining 3 touch n gos...also heavy landing...i seriously battered the plane today. not a good day for me. final landing was made by me with inputs from the instructor. also not good..whack...X-wind max was 14 kts.

    Sat Night Out

18th August, Simon came over to Jandakot yesterday (Friday). Course 125 strength 20, back to default. As most of us didn't have flight scheduled, we decided to head down to North Bridge to grow fat, which is the official pass time here in Perth.

We arrived at Young Joes too early. They onli start serving food at 1730hrs. So feeling 'bo liao', we went into Time Zone arcade first to kill time. hahaha...then some 8 of us were mesmorised by 3 kids playing the Token Slotting Game and decided to try our luck on it too! muahaha...hilarious, it's like back to secondary school days manz...freakz...but our 50 tokens (which cost $5aus) only lasted less than 10 mins!

    Feeling Absolutely Kiddish

    Young Joes

1730hrs, we headed back to Young Joes to grab our pizzas and chill mussels!  Being in the 'desperate-for-chill-mood', we ordered extra HOT chill mussels large x 2! Plus 3 LARGE pizzas and 2 baskets of garlic bread! Feeding pigs time...muahahaha...slurp!

    Extra Hot Chill Mussels

Like i mentioned earlier, we are 'bo liao' pple. So we decided to play 'Zhong Ji Mi Ma' (han yu ping ying) using the remains of the chill mussels. For the benefit of those who have absolutely no idea what the game is about, basically there is a game master who will choose a number between 1-99 and the remaining players will start choosing numbers. The UNLUCKY guy who jackpot the number that the game master set prior to start of the game will get forfeited.

So here's freaking what happened soon after the game started.

Yes! Every dog has his day...I kena!

Towards the end, Timmy boy decided to "SHOWHAND" the remaining of the extra hot sauce! And guess what...

    SHOWHAND!

    TIMMY BOY

Muahahha....at this point...everyone on the table was bursting into laughter as we ganged up against timmy boy in the final round. muahahaha...ultra funny.

Dinner ended around 1900hrs, and the day seems uncompleted. We headed over to Amano, Fremantle for Gelato again! Slurp! Feeling 'poserish', we sat at the outdoor tables to see and be seen. And despite the cold, it was definately coz shortly after getting our Gelato, 1 x limousine packed full of gers came driving pass us and shouted "WE LUV ASIANS!" Immediately, Simon stood up and shouted back "WE LUV U TOO!" What a scene that was...

    Sortie 107 - Circuits

Woke up 0630hrs, for my flight scheduled at 0800hrs. It's another one of those early morning flights where the cold is unbearable. Freaking cold...

I am still doing circuits in JDK, preparing for Sortie 109, Solo flight. Sortie 107 could have been alot better if i had enough sleep. I was slow and basically was stoning during the flight.

During one of the go-arounds, my aircraft was off trim and i input full power...the aircraft nose shot up and i was slow to react to that. The speed washed down to below 60kts and i almost stalled the aircraft. Not something i will wanna do again when you are onli 300ft AGL. Sign...i need to mental fly more and do more prep for my next sortie, sortie 107A.

    Crosswind landing, 10kts.

JDK Welcome Party for Course 125

It has been a month since i arrived here in Jandakot. Every course will have to go thru a welcome party, kinda like an initiation thingy so as to get to know the cadets from other courses.

Sorry, no pics for this posting, becoz i was busy drinking my beer hahaha...but notch alot...just 3 cans. Beer taste erkky, almost puke...Chips, Beer and Chocolate accompanied us for the whole of the evening.

Things didn't get outa hand, which was kinda surprising. All the party shit ended at around 930 and it's then back to our rooms to slack...which is wat i am doing now. hahaha...oki enough of bitching.

    Sortie 106 - Circuits

2nd flight going up to do circuits. Took off 151000hrs,  executed take-off and 3 touch n go. Landing was done by my instructor and he also demostrated Go-Around procedures.

As usual, the traffic in the circuits are heavy and i was stuck behind another plane who was doing this ultra wide circuit. darn...! Overall a better flight as compared to yesterday's Sortie 105. Let's hope things get even better in Sortie 107.

    Sortie 105 - Circuits

141330hrs, took off runway 24L for circuits. This is the first time that i am doing circuit training. Back in Seletar, my flying ended with stalling.

X-wind was max at 12kts. Total 5 touch n go plus 1 final landing. The workload flying in circuits is a lot more compared to flying in the training area. The stuff that you need to do within the time frame is like 1/5th of wat you normally have in the training area.

All in all, i only managed to handle 2 touch n go and the landing was an assisted attempt, with the other 3 being done by my instructor. Hopefully the next flight will be a better one.

Margaret River Road Trip - Final Destination Margaret River

    Final Destination - Margaret River

We left Sugarloft Rock at around noon time and headed towards Margaret River via Cave Road. Margaret River is famous for it's many wineries. Being the typical Singaporeans, of course we will go wine tasting along the way down south to Margaret River. We attempted to eat in Flute's restaurant, which is found in Brookland Valley. But sadly, it's way over what we can afford. Just for the soup, it costed $16aus. So we left the place with empty stomaches and a few pics.

    Brookland Vallley

    Wine yards

We sped down to Margaret River coz our stomaches were all getting abit noisy.

1400hrs, we finally reached Margaret River Town. Guess wat we had for lunch. But of course my favourite, SUBWAY sandwiches! Cheap and good! Damage per head $5aus. Of course, being in the valley famous with all kinds of wine, we dropped by Settler's Tavern and bought ourselves a bottle of 2006 Macs' White Margaret River.

After the hearty meal and the drink, we took a walk around Margaret River Town. The place reminds me of phuket, surfers, the beaches, the waves, the sun etc. minus the Bikini babes. Winter i suppose, too cold.

    Margaret River Town

Right about 1600hrs, we drove down to Margaret River mouth. And here's what happened next.

All in all, the trip was an enjoyable one. The sad thing is that there are just too many places and too many things to do but too little time. As i had been scheduled to fly the following day, we have to head back Jandakot Airport after sunset. Another 4hrs drive up north back to where we came from.

Before i sign off, here's what i shot during sunset at Margaret River Mouth.

Margaret River Road Trip - Busselton, Sugarloft Rock and Bunker Bay

Busselton - The place that housed the World's longest Jetty

It's another long drive down south from Bunbury to Busselton. We reached Busselton around 0930hrs. We checked out the Visitor Centre hoping to get more info on the surroundings. But i guess we were too early. But that didn't stop me from taking pics!

Me acting 'cool' in front of the Visitor Centre

Not wanting to waste any time, we drove down to Busselton Jetty, located some 850m from the Visitor Centre. Busselton Jetty is one of the famous attractions here in Busselton. It records a total of 1.8km in length into the ocean. Cool eh?

    Busselton Jetty

The Tail End of Busselton Jetty

Super cool right? But it's really quite tiring to walk up and down Busselton Jetty. 3.6km walk...darn!

After the super long walk up/down Busselton Jetty, we moved on to Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. There are 2 major lighthouses over here in Perth Western Australia, one being Cape Naturaliste and the other being Cape Leeuwin. The stupid thing is, when we reached Cape Naturaliste, we were told that if we wish to visit the Lighthouse, we need to pay $10aus each for the guided tour. We tot it's really not worth it considering that the tour is only 30mins, we took off to Sugarloft and Bunker Bay instead.

Margaret River Road Trip - Jandakot to Bunbury

    Start Point - Jandakot Airport

11th August 2007, 0430hrs, 4 champions consisting of LP, JJ, Robin and myself decided to drive down to Margaret river, 4hrs down south from where we are staying. A good comparison will be driving up to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore. The morning was freaking cold and especially good to remain snuggle between our blanket and bed. darn...grouchy...

0450, engine started and there was no turning back. We headed down towards Mandurah travelling along Roe Highway follow by Kwinana Highway. Pit stop Mandurah for petrol refuel. 121.9 per 10ltrs plus a bar of chocolate, damage $50aus.

LP: "Hmmm...4 guys on a road trip, without gers, where's the porn and the beer?"

Neh...we left the petrol station with just the choco bar and petrol, nothing else. It was straight down to Bunbury after the pit stop.

    Breakfast at Bunbury Town

    Sunrise at Bunbury Harbour

We reached Bunbury Harbour around 0600hrs, just in time for sunrise. The chilling wind was almost unbearable as my fingers almost became numb well trying to frame the surroundings of Bunbury Harbour. By the way, i had my gloves on.

What greeted us at around 0615 was simply breathtaking. I have never seen such incredible sunrise back in Singapore. The sky was cloudless and the twilight that shot through my lens are amazing. Snap snap snap!

We headed towards the nearest MacDonald's for our breakfast. We were desperately in need of a hot drink. The cold was just so unbearable.

    LP, Robin, JJ and Myself

    Coast Line of Bunbury

Before heading down further south, the 4 champions decided to drive down to the coast line of bunbury. I wanna stay here manz....the view is just so captivating and the residents are literally staying next to the coastline. Amazing shit i must say.

In order to take the pic, i was doing this! Serves me right for being lazy and not bringing along my tripod. No choice...almost had to go on all 4s. I didn't know i had such big butt until i saw this pic. SIA is feeding me well! hahahah~ opz

Sortie 104 Stalling - Clear Sky

VH-SYH took off 121130hrs for Sortie 104. Clear sky CAVOK, finally i get to go above 3500ft to execute the stalling maneuvers after having to cancel the previous 2 flights due to the weather.

    Hic cups:
    1. Read back "Clear for T/O, SYH" instead of "Line up, SYH"
    2. Inbound call was all over the shop!
    3. Trimming of A/C was over done
    4. Rudder input needs more practise.

2nd took off performed and 1st landing made. Both instructor and myself came back alive, so i gues the sortie aint as bad as it can be.

Taking a walk in John Forest, WA

Saturday 04/08/2007, freaking boring day...went for Dim Sum lunch at Rising Sun Chinese Restaurant . Damage $11aus. But not too bad considering that it's EAT-ALL-YOU-CAN style. Suits 'yao gui' like me~ eat and grow fat~!

Wanted to go Murdoch or Curtin University in the afternoon to check out the 'babes' there...but realised that aussie universities are currently having their term break. So...feeling bored...i drove some 28km up to John Forest, hoping to catch some aussie wild creatures with my camera.

Freaking hell...the drive up John Forest is really darn far from Rising Sun Restaurant. Plus the fact that my GPS map doesn't have the forest logged, it took me and JJ a freaking hr or so drive before eventually getting to John Forest. It was alreadi 1500hrs when we got there.
