Debrief for Sortie 108E – Tan Yang Beng
Sortie Details: Sortie 108E Circuits, 4 + 1
Duration: 1hr
Flight Schedule: ATD 16:15 ETA: 17:15
- Rudder input during take off was too aggressive resulting in the plane to swing left and right.
- Need to take note of the banking angle; do not over bank the aircraft.
- For X-Wind take off, turn aileron into the wind. As the speed increases, slowly return the aileron back to neutral position. X-Wind landing is the direct opposite; when airspeed comes down, more aileron has to be input to make sure that the aircraft do not drift sideways from the runway centerline.
- Take note of weather cocking the aircraft in x-wind conditions and make sure that the downwind league is flown parallel to the runway. Do not cut into the runway.
- During base, anticipate that the airspeed to come down to 70kts. Start lowering the nose at 75kts instead of lowering it at 70kts.
- Make sure to call out traffic sighted during turning base.
Bad call i made to go up? didn't manage to fly the plane the way i wanted it to. defeated by the wind...1hr more? work hard!

Debrief for Sortie 108D – Tan Yang Beng
Sortie Details: Sortie 108D Circuits, 5 + 1
Duration: 1hr
Flight Schedule: ATD 15:00 ETA: 16:00
- For engine start up, let the engine fire up first before pushing in the mixture to rich.
- When turning the aircraft, cadet must remember to execute a coordinated flight; left aileron with left rudder, right aileron with right rudder. Maintain the ball in centre. This technique applies during finals when the ailerons are used to get the aircraft back to the centerline.
- During taxiing, even when told to expedite, do not increase to the power to 1500rpm. 1200rpm is enough.
- During take off, do not over correct the aircraft. Slowly increase the power to full so as to have better control of the aircraft and to maintain centerline.
- When flying downwind, there should only be a maximum of 10O weather cocking of the aircraft heading. Make sure that the downwind tracking is done parallel to the runway.
- Always fly the aircraft first before doing downwind checks.
- Do not lose any height when powering back to 1400rpm during late downwind and turning base. Only start to descend when ASI reads 70kts.
- When rolling out at finals, align the aiming point with the top of the compass and do slight adjustments from there.
- Remember when decreasing power, left rudder to control adverse yaw and vice versa when increasing power.
- Continue to pull back on the control column after touch down and do not let the nose wheel drop onto the runway.
- During holding off, make sure to use all 3 control surfaces.
- Aileron to control drifting due to cross wind
- Rudder to control nose parallel/align with centerline
- Elevator to arrest the sink rate
There is hope! Work work...

I was here
After 2 conseq. days of flying, finally took my mind off flying for awhile. Headed down to King's Park located just around the corner of Perth City Central. The park overlooks the CBD of Perth City. Here's wat i came back with.

Sortie Details: Sortie 108C Circuits, 4 + 1
Duration: 1hr
Flight Schedule: ATD 11:20 ETA: 12:20
- For engine start up, mixture to be increased progressively instead of pushing in rapidly.
- Make sure to follow the check list and review the ATIS during after start check.
- Taxiing was too fast. Advised to look sideways through the window to check actual taxiing speed. Taxiing speed should be maintained at face walking pace.
- During take off, make sure to arrest the aircraft from taking off before 60kts is reached.
- Need to improve on situational awareness when it comes to following circuit traffic.
- When traffic is building up, be proactive to fly the aircraft at lower airspeed by powering back to 1800-1900rpm and fly at 90kts to increase the separation from the aircraft in front. Option of extending the flaps can be considered.
- For circuit flying, constantly check for Height, Heading, Speed, and Spacing.
- When turning from base to finals, the height should be kept at 500-600ft.
- Judgment must be exercised when coming to round out. Need to feel that the aircraft is sinking and hence pulling back the control column to arrest the sink. Landing made was very bad throughout the session.
i need to work harder...the hrs are drawing near.

I flew Sortie 108B on 091400hrs. After 3 sorties (3hrs), i finally got something right in my flying. after all the bad flights that i had been doing, i really got frustrated over the fact that i have no idea wat was screwing my circuits up. i just couldn't figure out wat was wrong...i talked to my colleagues, to my instructors...hoping that someone can enlighten me. from all the info gathered, i realised that fundamentally, i had been flying the circuit wrongly. making reference to the runway at all times should be the way to go...instead of memorising reference points and ground features.
108B was a specially planned for circuit session. I flew with ACFI with my default instructor paxing my flight. 2 instructors in 1 flight...scary. did 4 touch-n-goes...and i just couldn't land the plane properly. hard landings...bounced...go-arounds.
finally, the final full stop was called. and i tot it's another one of those sortie that is simply horrible. downwind full-stop flapless. the PIC wanted me to fullstop with no flaps. haiz...just do it, i told myself.
i held my nerves and made the landing. smooth...left wheel, right wheel, nose wheel. finally i landed the plane properly. now i just hope that i can do it again.
next sortie 108C, planned 101130hrs.

Sortie 108 and 108A. Flown last week, both sorties i must be dreaming. not good. disappointed and to think that sortie 109 is a solo sortie. to be precised, my first solo sortie. but i just aint ready for it yet. not performing up to standards...something's not right...got to buck up.
enough said, just work harder!
